You guys are great, as I’ve stated before I live in BIG 12 Country and this is the type of stuff you may get in the local papers or local sport radio shows, people out here are nuts about FB and I hope you guys can help bring that type of mentality to the FANS in El Paso.
GO MINERS!!!
Chris and I are both from a school that is also football crazy and we feel that EP is hungry for the type of information outlet that we’re accostumed to with our alma mater. We’re very happy that more and more Miner fans are enjoying the site, and we can’t wait to introduce our new site next week. Keep the comments coming!
Any thought to the new UTSA program siphoning off Miner recruits in the SA area?
I don’t think it will have much of an impact because, if I’m not mistaken, UTSA will start as a FCS school not an FBS school. The distinction is very important to prospects. If it does start out as a FBS school, UTEP doesn’t really recruit SA that heavily (although the city has produced a multitude of talent, it doesn’t compare to Houston or Dallas).
Texas has a plethora of talent but the more programs that spring up, the smaller the pie becomes for the rest of us outside of UT and A&M. Also, a lot of national programs recruit out of Texas which makes the pickings even slimmer. My thinking is that while UTEP continues to recruit other places, like California, UTSA may start to establish roots in the southeastern part of the country. Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Arkansas are also talent rich and SA’s proximity to those areas may help them tap into another talent pool. I just can’t imagine that UTSA’s program will have any significant impact on UTEP’s recruiting, at least in the foreseeable future.
Great question! Keep the comments coming!
