EL PASO, Texas – UTEP softball’s Camilla Carrera and Stacie Townsend were named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) first team All-Midwest Region as announced by the organization on Thursday.

This is the second honor for Carrera and Townsend, who were named to the team a season ago.

The pair are now eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams.

Carrera batted a team-leading .376 and ranked first on the team in hits (59), RBIs (42), doubles (16), total bases (93) and double plays (5).

Townsend led the defensive charge from inside the circle, picking up 25 of the Miners’ 31 victories, was named the NFCA/Louisville Slugger Division I Player of the Week and was awarded the league’s Player of the Week four times in 2010.

She produced 11 double-digit strikeout games, five shutout victories, a no hitter and became the first pitcher in school history to eclipse 800 K’s in a career (559 more than the next player).

The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region. The NFCA Division I All-American teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, June 2.
