EL PASO, Texas – Miner Illustrated would like to welcome three new writers to its staff: Gustavo Contreras, Alex Morales and Angel Luna. The trio will provide extra man power to ensure MI fans get the latest and greatest information on UTEP Athletics, including recruiting.

If you’d like to get the lowdown on the new staffers, we’ve provided a short biography for each individual. If you’d like to join the Miner Illustrated staff, shoot us an e-mail at show@minerillustrated.com.

Gustavo Contreras: Staff writer

Gustavo has been a resident of El Paso, Texas for 24 years. He graduated from Hanks High School in 2004 and is currently attending El Paso Community College. He is working on a degree in Broadcast Journalism. Gustavo is an avid sports fan, attending UTEP athletic games for more than 10 years, while participating on Internet sports forums for the past five years. He’ll use that well-rounded knowledge, of what the fans want to know, and bring it to them in his writing.

Gustavo has  also played competitive golf in high school and worked at Coronado Country club for more than three years. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, watching soccer and participating in active sports.

Alex Morales: Staff writer

Alex is a recent graduate from the University of Texas at El Paso. He previously worked at the student newspaper, The Prospector, where he wrote gamers, previews and columns for football and basketball. Alex brings more than two years of experience covering UTEP sports and has a knack for getting under people’s skin with his must-read columns.

Angel Luna: Football recruiting expert

There are three things you need to know about Luna: he was born and raised in Puerto Rico, is an avid fan of college sports, especially football, basketball and volleyball and in 2003 he moved to El Paso, Texas. Since then, he’s followed UTEP’s basketball, football and volleyball teams, faithfully, while also keeping a closer eye on their respective recruiting efforts. Luna played competitive volleyball and softball in high school and enjoys playing golf, softball, basketball and the piano in his spare time.
