EL PASO, Texas- UTEP has parted ways with golf coach Rick Todd after 12 years. The Miners’ golf team has been in decline since 2004 and is not showing any signs of improvement.

Todd is a UTEP alum and former standout golfer for the Miners in the 1980’s. He was UTEP’s first All-American in 1984 and played on various mini tours as a professional.

Despite his personal success, UTEP hasn’t finished higher than 9th place over the past three seasons with Todd as their coach. The team has been known to lack consistency and structure. The Miners have finished in the top three of their conference three times under Todd, but they were never able to win it all. UTEP’s best season under Todd came in 2004 with Chris Baryla scored an average of 70 and earned second team All-American.

With Todd out of the program, it leaves many questions to be answered by the incoming coach about the current crop of players and recruits.
