After the Miners tough loss to SMU over the weekend the coaching staff looks to right the ship before the I-10 matchup with the Aggies this Saturday in Las Cruces. As the team prepares for the next game, the football program is still busy looking towards the future.
To bring some much needed help to the offensive line the Miners are pursuing offensive guard Braden Meador (6’5″, 275 pounds, 5.42/40) from Montgomery, TX (Montgomery HS) recently received an offer from UTEP. Meador has offers from Air Force, Columbia, Houston and Tulane. Meador possess a huge body with long arms. He is a tough run blocker with decent speed to block downfield and getting into the second level. Meador has good arm length and the strength needed for pass protection. He needs to get quicker out of the ball and shows some lower body stiffness. Meador was a backup guard last season as the Bears reached the Region III-4A Division I final for the first time in program history and helped pave the way last season for running back Leroy Dobbins, who amassed 1,928 yards and scored 29 touchdowns, and protect quarterback Tyler Bolfing, who threw for 1,856 yards and 27 touchdowns against only five interceptions. Bolfing was sacked only three times in 14 games as Montgomery finished 12-2.

Additionally, the Miners are looking at QB/WR Andre Anderson 5’11 191 4.48/40 yards from Cedar Hill, TX (Cedar Hill HS) received an offer from UTEP last week. Anderson has offers from Air Force, Army, Rice and Utah State.
Andre Anderson is a playmaker for the Longhorns (Cedar Hill), and after spending last season as a receiver, could play at quarterback or running back. He is considered a dual-threat quarterback due to his running abilities. He has a strong arm but most recruiting services are projecting him as a wide receiver.
Anderson is a speedy and elusive wide receiver with great agility. He was used mostly on short pass patterns and can accelerate though an opening once he gets into the open field..

It’s great to see that the Miner’s are looking for a few good men e.g. offensive linemen. I am not saying that the offensive linemen that we have now are incapable of improving over the season. I am just simply saying they are not holding their end of the bargain as of now. I have stated before that the Miner’s still hold a very good possibility of going to a bowl game this year. I just hope that the line can keep Lamaison healthy so he can help lead the team to victory.
He’s a project, with a lot of potential upside but considerable risk. As far as football-ready linemen, Montgomery had at least two other smaller, less-recruited guys on same line.
When I see kids like this being recruited over more obviously talented football players, it’s easy to see why some programs struggle.
