As the Miners prepare for their Thursday night game with the Houston Cougars, Angel Luna has also been busy seeking out some more recruiting information to share with the Miner Maniacs out there.
Here are a couple football prospects:
RB Jalynn McCain 5’11 215 pounds 4.47/40 from Richmond, TX (Bush HS) received an offer from UTEP last week. McCain has offers from UTSA, Louisiana Tech, San Jose State, UNLV and Western Michigan. He also is getting some interest from Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Colorado State, Houston, LSU and TCU among others. McCain was only expected to be a junior this season but he moved up a year.
McCain ended last season with 750 yards (7.1 yards per carry) and 8 TDs.
McCain is fast and strong. He is not afraid of running over the defense and he’s really tough to bring down. McCain has the ability to break a lot of first contact shots. He can jump-cut and sidestep effectively and is difficult to get a direct shot on. He also shows great cutback vision, feet and agility.
McCain (#17 RB) is on Dave Campbell’s Texas top 300 was named to the 2010 All District: 23-5A Zone B as the best kick returner.

2013 QB Cameron Luper 5’11 185 pounds 4.55/40 from Auburn, AL (Auburn HS) received an offer from UTEP. Luper has offers from Southern Miss, Toledo, and Vanderbilt among others.
Cameron, a dual athlete on football and track, earned varsity playing time as freshman and followed up with a strong season at quarterback in the fall of 2010 in his sophomore campaign. He is a standout in the 100 and 200 meters in track and is also one of the state’s top long jumpers.
Luper finished his sophomore year with 622 yards on 122 carries and 9 TDs; he also threw for for 1,088 yards (completing 66% of his passes) with 9 TDs and 4 INTs.

And on the basketball front …
SG Avery Woodson, 6-2 from Wayne County, MS. may not be a household name in the country (or for that matter anywhere outside the Deep South) but make no mistake he’ll be a catch for someone as he can shoot it with the best of them. He went head to head against all of Mississippi’s great guards last year and when they raised the 6A State Championship trophy it was Woodson who held it high for Wayne County.
Woodson was selected as the Most Improved Player at Wayne County and All-District last season and Woodson is receiving interest from UTEP and Southeastern Louisiana.

SF Andre White 6’6 205 pounds from Chester, VA (Miller HS) is getting some serious interest from UTEP. White has offers from Kansas, Texas, Louisville, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, Tennessee, Wake Forest, Alabama, Cincinnati, Oklahoma State and UTEP among others.
Ratings:
- 4 stars with 94 grade and ESPN Top 100 (51st), # 12 SG
- 4 stars, #56 overall and #12 SG by rivals.com
- 4 stars, #12 SG by scout.com
As per espn.com: “White is an active wing that plays more like a small forward than a shooting guard at this point but as he improves his range could easily excel at both positions. He runs the outside lane in transition and is a good spot up shooter with time. White also has an excellent mid-range game where he can knock down shots off the catch and the dribble. He can slash to the rim with a couple of strong, straight dribbles.”
