The football team may have had a bye week and the MI staff might have taken the weekend off for our own bye, but our recruiting guru Angel Luna is still plugging away bringing some more recruiting news for the Miner Maniacs out there. Enjoy.
In football recruiting news:
LB Jaquirous Jackson 5’10 205 pounds from Arlington, TX (Bowie H.S.) recently received an offer from UTEP. Jackson also has offers from Houston and Tulsa among others.
Jackson was a surprise top performer at the Kirk Herbstreit Football Classic this past September helping his defense in a 36-6 win over Karr and also got in on the scoring with a 2-yard touchdown run. Schools are starting to take notice of the undersized 5-foot-10, 205-pound defender as he is starting to receive more attention as of late. Jackson is a force against the run and defends the pass well from his linebacker position.

On the basketball front…
SF Cole Huff 6’6 200 pounds from North Hollywood, CA (Campbell Hall H.S.) received an offer from UTEP last week. Huff also has offers from Nevada, UC Riverside, Pepperdine, Denver and UC Irvine.
Huff committed to San Diego State University last November but decided to decommit after the Aztecs gained transfers from forwards Dwayne Polee, J.J. O’Brien and a commitment from three-star forward Matt Shrigley. Also, the departure of Aztec assistant coach/recruiting coordinator Justin Hutson to UNLV did not help matters as Huff decided to reopen his recruitment.
Huff is an underrated prospect and possesses some intriguing skills as he looks to bounce back after a torn meniscus last November. Due to his ability to knock down shots and ball handling abilities, he has the chance to be a tough match up at the next level. He needs to get stronger and improve his defensive skills and fundamentals.

Does the newly added wide receiver McKay have a rating or story on which schools he passed over for the Miners? I ask because he seems to be a new add on to the list which I think is a great way for fans to track the upcoming signing day. Just curious
John,
McKay had football offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Central Florida, Illinois, Georgia State and Cincinnati. He also had basketball offers from IUPUI, Central Florida, Georgia State, Manhattan, Iona and Evansville.
Here is his rivals profile (3-star rating) http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-MeKale-McKay-126743
