Verbal Commits (as of Aug 26, 2011)
Name/Pos: Blair Brown, LB
- Ht/Wt: 6’0″, 210 pounds
- Hometown/School: Rancho Verde, Calif. (Rancho Verde HS)
Name/Pos: Cooper Foster, OLB
- Ht/Wt: 6’1″, 190 pounds
- Hometown/School: Cedar Park, TX (Vista Ridge HS)
Name/Pos: Glen Antoine, DL
- Ht/Wt: 6’1″, 273 pounds
- Hometown/School: Round Rock, TX (Round Rock HS)
- Angel’s Angle: Antoine played the nose in his high school’s three man front. He will be a better fit on UTEP’s 4-3 defense and will need to play the three-technique to stay inside. Antoine lacks ideal height and needs to work on getting off the ball more quickly. Antoine is a good football player with a good first-step and some toughness.

Name/Pos: Silas Firstley, DL
- Ht/Wt: 6’1″, 273 pounds
- Hometown/School: Round Rock, TX (Round Rock HS)
- UTEP66′s Take: Named the District 15-4A Special Teams MVP after helping lead Poteet to a 12-3 record and a berth in the state semi-finals for the first time in school history. Last year, Firstley had 88 tackles, including four sacks. In addition to the special teams award, the TSWA named the defensive lineman to the Texas 4-A All-State 3rd Team and Dave Campbell Texas Football named Firstley the 2011 pre-season District 15-4A Defensive MVP. The versatile Firstley has played defensive end, tackle and linebacker during his career. He’s on the smallish size; depending on how well he can bulk up and improve his speed (4.98 forty), it will determine whether his ultimate home is defensive end or tackle. With a nose for the ball, strength and tenacity, Firstley has good upside with some weight room work.
Name/Pos: Daniel Shaul, DL
- Ht/Wt: 6’1″, 240 pounds
- Hometown/School: Spring, TX (Klein Oak HS)
- UTEP66′s Take: Helped Klein Oak to an 8-4 season last year. Last season, Shaul had 29 tackles and one sack. He’s quick, has good strength and pursues well. His technique needs improvement, but overall Shaul has Division I potential and above average upside. With highly touted linebacker A. J. Hillard and defensive back Dashone Smith drawing a great deal of attention, Shaul was a little overshadowed last year and has been flying “under the radar.” In addition to UTEP’s offer, Shaul has received offers from Southeastern Louisiana, Baylor, North Texas, Houston, Air Force and Western Kentucky.
Name/Pos: JaQuan White, WR
- Ht/Wt: 6′, 170 pounds
- Hometown/School: Lancaster, TX (Lancaster HS)
- UTEP66′s Take: With 4.4 speed, this standout wide receiver shows breakaway speed, nice body control and the ability to catch well in traffic. White had a nice junior campaign with 17 receptions, over 17 yards per carry and three touchdowns. The gifted athlete brings outstanding academic credentials with a 3.6 GPA. Other schools looking at White include Baylor, Duke, Kansas State, Missouri and TCU.
Name/Pos: Garrett Simpson, QB
- Ht/Wt: 6’4″, 220 pounds
- Hometown/School: The Colony, TX (The Colony HS)
- UTEP66′s Take: Simpson cited Coach Price’s ability to develop quarterbacks as a key reason for selecting the Miners. In addition, Simpson will unite with high school teammate, Gage Sharp, a 2011 Miner signee. At 6-feet 4-inches and 230 pounds, Simpson is the big quarterback Price covets. Last season, Simpson completed 55% of his passes for 2,271 yards and 23 touchdowns. The pro-style quarterback has shown that he is accurate, has good arm strength and can buy time in the pocket when necessary. The Dave Campbell Texas Top 300 selection also received an offered from Kansas State.
Name/Pos: Autrey Golden, RB
- Ht/Wt: 5’10″, 190 pounds
- Hometown/School: The Colony, TX (The Colony HS)
